VOICES at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids
WKTV VOICES partnered with Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids to celebrate the 73rd birthday of iconic comedienne Gilda Radner and to bear witness to the stories of pain, joy, grief and hope that comprise each cancer journey.
Gilda Radner was born to make people laugh. As a member of the original Saturday Night Live cast, Gilda charmed millions with crazy characters like Rosanne Rosanneadanna, Emily Litella, and Lisa Looper. When you hear the phrases, “Never mind!” and “It’s always something,” that’s classic Gilda.
In 1986, Gilda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. During her treatment, she became part of a cancer support community. It was her wish that anyone dealing with cancer could receive the kind of support she did. Gilda died on May 20, 1989, at the age of 42.
Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids keeps Gilda’s memory kindled, and honors her life by providing free emotional healthcare to children, adults, families, and friends on any kind of cancer journey, or those grieving the death of someone in their life due to any cause.
Together, VOICES and Gilda’s Club welcome and laud those who share their cancer journeys with us, as well as friends and family members. Their stories will be preserved for all time. VOICES. Share your story.
